Ok, it had to be done. It's a thread for Avatar the Last Airbender. I know for a fact several of you watch it (and there's one other who I'm forcing to ;D) so we should talk about it. Let's begin. What is so incredibly cool and addictive about Avatar?!

Its cool cuz everyone knows that they would love to be able to do it.
And whats weird is everyone tends to pick out one element in particular, witch they would prefer. Just for curiosity sake what element would everyone pick? Id chose water.

hmm, tossup for me (in general, having not seen avatar - yet) between air and water, but it'd depend a lot on how the two are portrayed in the series.

I'd pick firebending, actually. Not the most versatile of the bending arts, but it looks like it would be so cathartic. I could throw tantrums without breaking stuff! (kidding)

righto - now that I've seen quite a bit of Avatar... I'd want to be a water bender. The healing is totally awesome. Though I really think water should be more powerful against fire than it is in the series... that's the whole point of the balance of the elements isn't it? water douses fire burns earth traps air moves water? or something like that Anyway, they can each be overpowered by one of the other elements, so unless they all exist in balance they all destroy each other. Enough of my elemental theories. The upshot is, I wanna be a waterbender! -- martian sushi

I think waterbending is more effective than how they show it. I mean, in the season one finale, they were kicking some serious butt. Plus Katara can take Zuko. She just can't take Azula. No one can take Azula! *grr*

good point... but there must always be a psychotic maniac villain who cannot be given the smack until the end of the series! and arguably Katara's hasn't been practicing waterbending for as long as Azula (on another note, Uncle Iro (sp?) is also a powerful bender... maybe he'll marry Katara haha!)

So, what ship is everybody on? I mean, who do you think will win, or who would you like to win? Kataang, or Zutara?

Haha well we all know whose ship Snipes is on... I like Zuko - I think he totally deserves to get the girl. And by the girl I mean THE GIRL, Katara... none of this 'having feelings for Song' business. Plus, I really don't see Katara EVER thinking of Ang as anything other than a little brother... her reactions to him are almost always along the 'Mom' side of things than romantic. Well, I dun spoke my piece, who wants to fight? -- martian sushi

Heehee... *is filled with the love of zutara*
Ok, so Sushi, what do you think was going on in the Cave of Two Lovers? I agree with you about the ships, but that episode is hard to argue with. Katara wanted to kiss Aang, and her thinking it would get them out of the cave does not make much sense. It looks more like she was looking for an excuse to kiss him. In any case, that's a terrible way to mess with the heart of a love struck 12 year old!

pssh to that. i think katara was dead set embarassed about even suggesting it, because she DIDN'T want to kiss him. but of course, when he acted like he didn't care (cause he knew she wasn't really interested) she got mad, I mean, he was a little insulting. I think she was just convinced it was the only way they were going to get out. In desperate times, and all that. Also, remember Katara's obsession with the fortune telling (that was before this, right? i forget). Saka practically put it into her head that she was gonna marry Ang. Now that's a tough thing to get around, and it's really obvious she wasn't happy with the idea. i think a lot is dependant on how you read the emotions of the characters at the time. really, you can make that episode say just about anything you want... If you see Katara in general as being more mothering toward Ang than as a possible love interest, there's no way that episode will mean what some people think it does... My theory is: all the boys love Katara = Katara inaccessible all the girls love Zuko = Zuko inaccessible and the two inaccessible folks always get together at the end... plus, Katara is WAY too old for his Ang-stiness . Following the general formula, anyway. and now, having expounded my theories some more, I am off to scour the rest of the forum for entertainment...

Now that's a tough thing to get around, and it's really obvious she wasn't happy with the idea. Haha, I know! She looked so depressed by the idea. Though once you see the episode Bitter Work (which I didn't show you cuz I didn't like it at first, but it has grown on me) you'll see that Zuko really can't be considered a "powerful bender" at this point in the series. But that doesn't discourage this Zutarian, actually. It makes me excited to see how the boy will progress in his abilities as the series goes on. (Some of us think there's sumthin special about him, but we aren't sure what. Just look, his scar is shaped like a comet! That has to mean something.) Not to mention, "opposites attract", "forbidden love", "peasant falling for royalty", "yin/yang", Zutara's got all the cliche's on its side! Hehe. Which is exactly why some don't like it, but those people forget "bad guy turning good and getting with main girl instead of the main guy" is way original. At least in Avatar's delivery of it.

hmm... man, does that mean my comic will be copying Avatar? And I didn't even know it... ::sigh:: oh well Yeah, I watched the episodes you sent home with me the next day. Poor Zuko... but as Iroh says, he has to master himself before he can be a master bender...

Yeah. But when he does that, I can't wait to see what crazy firebending moves he comes up with! I've got my fingers crossed for white fire. I have a sinking suspicion, though, that the boy is going to end up trying to redirect lightning (to protect the good guys maybe? Dare I dream??) and end up taking it directly in the heart. The way Iroh pointed out how he should be careful about taking it through the heart makes it seem like that's exactly what he's going to do, allbeit accidentally. And THAT would give Katara a reason to use that oasis water she still has for some major magic healing! (Eee! Zutara!) *pants* Ok, enough of my predictions that will most likely be waaaaay off. About the copying thing, I can guarantee you that "bad guy turning good and getting with main girl instead of main guy" has been done before. Avatar's delivery of it just seems particularly unique to me for some reason I can't put my finger on. I mean, I don't generally give a damn about "ships". But this time it's like woah. I don't know, maybe it's all the symbolism they've given us indicating this pairing without any real interaction between the two, building all this tension I just have to see pay off. Or maybe it's because Zuko took his shirt off in the third episode. Who can say. ;D In any case, your delivery will be diferent, and if not, who cares! It's a great thing to copy. I'm actually looking for an opportunity to copy it in my stories. (Though not White Noise. That poor story doesn't need any more un-original elements. Eh, frankly there's no real opening for it. I'll just have to write some zutara fanfiction.)
