Well I don't have much to say that hasn't been said yet.
I do think that Wren is in some sense a human/alien hybrid but I think that Wren and Winter are like two creatures sharing one body but Wren is the dominant being, hence why it is Wren's mind that exists beyond the dream scape that the two entities share. So rather than Winter being part of Wren's subconsciouses, Winter is the mind and/or soul of the alien material that was fused with Wren.
Since almost every one agrees that Winter is in some sense an alien I propose this question; Is Winter the species that came to Earth and did the experiments, or is he a different sort of alien from the same or a different planet as the other aliens?

I think that the white animal is apart of his mutation possibly or that it is simply another mutant similar to him.
There are many possibilities, but I'm as good as clueless.

I agree the most with shadow. I think that Winter looks like one of the aliens. But he's not an alien, exactly. I think that the aliens have some sort of racial memory, which Wren has inherited part of through his alien DNA. Wren is essentially talking to himself in these dreams, and the reason the things Winter says seem so cryptic is because his racial memories are broken, incomplete.
