Please help me my brain is wandering around too much. I kinda have these little novels I'm doing for fun, unfortuenatley I'm only about 27 pages into them and starting to run dry. Don't get me wrong I have some great ideas for what's down the road for these guys; but I just can't get what will happen to them immediately next out of my happy prancing, unicorn chasing, dragon party loving head.

Well, there's always the best of the NaNoWriMo advice: When stuck, either introduce a new character or kill off an old one. Also, don't go back and edit ANYTHING if it's your first draft. It just slows you down. I'm sure that given more information about your novel I could give you more specific advice, but the good ole' character-add-and-subtract is tried and true. Not to mention fun. Especially character subtract. *evil grin* In fact, if you want to reserve a novel for work in November, I can join you in that endevor. NaNo is the best thing that ever happened to my fiction writing, in my open onion. To see what I mean, go to www.nanowrimo.org/modules/cjaycontent/index.php?id=2 to view the awesomeness that is NaNo!

How about an unexpected event, those are always fun, and I just inserted that, but I still only have a little under thirty pages, the thing is each of my main characters are getting these cool magic items for later use, so I have to come up with the new character's magical swag. You see my dilemma now?

Ah, and I guess it is a little too early for a death. At least, for a prominent one. Well, if you can't introduce a MAIN character, you could just throw in some bit-part person that helps them somehow.
Still, I understand how it is to be stuck in the creative duldrums. My characters just sort of parked themselves in the Great Hall in one scene and refused to move. I felt like a babysitter!
Since I don't pay attention to pages unless I'm writing essays, could you maybe fish up a wordcount? And if you've got a wordcount goal, that would be good too. Then I can get an idea of what you're shooting for. After all, pages tend to vary significantly by format, whereas word counters don't vary by more than about 200 words on average. Yaaaay NaNo-Geekiness.

What I did was introduce a minor character to help introduce the earlier main characters to the world I created, then I created a scenario where the main characters ended up one place while the minor character ended up in another, granted it's not killing him off but it does put him out of the way so I can use him later if I want since it's still to early in the book for someone to die.

Well, at least it moved the story on a bit. Glad it worked! And never forget that if you get really stuck, killing someone really DOES work, even if it is a random minor character. In the novel I'm working on, I actually needed to kill off a lot of people, and so I stuck my friends in as bit part characters just so I could kill them. XD

No, actually, they're good friends of mine. I just needed some quickie characters, and so I asked my friends, "Hey, do you want to die in my novel? If so, how?" It's amusing to see how many people want to die grusome, embarrasing, fictional deaths. XDD

any idea how elves should look, besides the pointed ears. Keep in mind the way I set up the elves as society they are a bunch of hippies, minus the drugs and more on the tree hugging.

Hmmm, elves like that should have very long hair... Also, random events help when you're stuck. I quite literally had a train crash into the room once. Much fun. AND NA-NO-WRI-MO ROCKS!!! I have teh book.^^

I kept picturing night elves from WoW. XD I've probably been playing that too much.
I didn't know you were a NaNoer, Wingedrat! Did you participate in '06 too?

I hit 58K, but I didn't finish my novel either. XD I think I'm not even at halfway. Yeah, I can be a little...verbose. ^^; I think I'm going to work on a different project just for kicks this November, but I still want to finish that novel too. It's one of my pet projects.

Yeah, last year I tried a spur-of-the-moment idea that ended up going nowhere...this year, I must plan better.

I can't find the USB with my story stuff on it, I knew I should have had it all backup on my computer. The last place I saw it was my room on my dresser but it wasn't there 20 minutes later, and I know I didn't touch it.
