Well, WN has a thread on this, and since there are or will be things to speculate on with MH, I figured I'd put one here too.^^ So guys, what do you think will happen?

My current hypothesis is that the pendant will make Kit turn into a mermaid, and then the two mischeif makers will drag her out on the mermaid town.

Sweet! speculation abounds! hmmm, though it'll be much harder to keep the crackpot theories and general speculation separated here, I think I second Poofies... either that, or it'll do something weird when she runs into other landies. I'm also considering the possibility that the mermaids have some prior knowledge of Kit from their ventures round pirate town... it's not entirely clear yet whether this is a chance meeting, or if they were waiting for her... hmmmm... :: strokes lack of goatee in a serious thinking posture ::

Yeah,
I'm thinking the gift is some sort of prank. Mermaids are only kind and generous in Disney ... stuff.

HAHAHA! I love bad puns! That's why I watch Rocky and Bullwinkle!
I'm wondering about that pendant. We know Kit can shapeshift. Maybe its a way of allowing her to "access" a new form.

Oooh, I like that interpretation! Though you'd have to then bring Sushi's hypothesis to further consideration, then too. Or maybe, if they don't know her, they expect the change to be permanent, but instead, since she's a shape-shifter, she can actually turn back, putting the joke back on them! That would be awesome. XD

Oooh! I like the way Poofie thinks! Mermaids have that "siren-like" quality of making sailors go all ape-shit over them, I wonder if the pendant simply produces that power.
Going back and looking at the pages again, I see the "Ariel" mermaid was wearing it. If it's entirely responsible for a transformation, I doubt she would have just taken it off and handed it over to Kit.

Okay! Time for another speculation involving dialogue
Holly: (Looking up from a table with an anchovie pizza in front of him) Where'd you get the bauble, Kit?
Kit: These cool mermaids gave it to me!
Holly:(Reaching towards the necklace) May I see it?
Kit:(Obligingly) Sure!
Holly quickly wraps the jewel tightly in a cloth napkin, and then tosses it into a garbage chute and presses a button labelled JETTISON.
Kit: (Shocked and annoyed) Why on Gaia and Tartarus did you do that for?!
Holly: That's a very old prank amongst mer-folk. They love to do things like this to noobs. Had the "jewel" been exposed to air another 15 minutes, your face would be covered in squid ink.

Yeah, so can I. Too bad Holly has to use a cloth napkin to dispose of it. I like cloth napkins! ;D

Yeah, so can I. Too bad Holly has to use a cloth napkin to dispose of it. I like cloth napkins! ;D Me too. I have some that were going to be thrown away by a hospital linen department. They are a bit worn, but still absorbant(gods, that sounded like a putrid paper towel commercial). I kinda of figured that there are probably few or no paper napkins in Kit's universe. It also occurs to me that cloth napkins might be a bit more practical in a humid environment such as an undersea vessel. hehe--I also used this spec to underscore Holly's worldliness. So far he strikes me as having the best diplomatic skills of the committee.

I think the pendant may hold the memory of her mom or have some cool aquatic power/ (insert random) elemental power. I really want to see some half dragons on the campus with everyone, that would be so cool. And most of them would a superiority complex, but one of the first half dragons that Kit meets could be this really nice rule ignoring lighting spitting addict, a.k.a. an average half bronze dragon.

Good point about practicality. I didn't even consider that.
Interesting idea you have there, Dragon, about the memory. I like it!
