I have 2 USB drives. One stays at the house, one is up in my office at the Church. I synchronize them together once a week. I also have everything in my "My Documents" folder. If you use a shared computer, some word processors will let you set a password to view or edit the document. Check in the "Options" menu.
I also have hard copies all printed out. One set is in the cabinet above my desk, and the other is in my office with the other drive.
I really hope you find it. I know what it feels like when you lose all your work. That's why I'm so paranoid now. Good luck.

Puh. My novel is scattered all over various computers, storage devices and external hardrives. I have no idea which versions of what are the most recent, and the task of figuring it out is daunting enough that I don't think I'll ever do it.>_< I'm just gonna start my next novel and let that one rot for a few years. XD
Ooh, Pipey, I like your icon. Is that new?

Snipes, I had that problem. I made no progress, and I felt horrible about it. That's what possessed me to get so crazy organized. Now if only I could get the rest of my life that organized. Yeah, a friend on another forum made them for me just before I left. It was another webcomic, and the author is a real bastard. But I'm still friends with the artist who made that.

*leans over into Snipes' ear and whispers* NaNoWriMo....NaNoWriMo....
I agree with the awesomeness of the new icon. I think it has more character than the last one.

Thanks! I shall have to tell the original artist.

I found my USB and now I'm going to get back to my novels, sometime later this week. The question I have is should work on the one with the elves and other myths or the one with demons.

....I vote...CROSSOVER! *Bricked for insolence*
I say work on whichever you're in the mood for. If you're not in the mood for either, then put the priority on whichever plotbunny's older.

good news one of my stories is now moving at the snail's pace I started at. I guess writing books isn't the kind of thing I should be do seeing as at the rate I'm going the earliest I'll have either of these books done is sometime in 2010. I'm more of a big picture guy, I can develop a concept and cool events for down the road that have room to become epic or something like that. However for the life of my I can not plan what is to immediately happen to my main characters.

I lost my USB, and I forgot to back it up on my comp, and I forgot to go out and get some spares. Anyway in the absence of anything better to do I started a new story. The catch in this one nobody can really die, because the place the are in won't let them. But that doesn't mean they can't feel the pain of each death, because they do. I decided to make the main character a chic, hope no one minds that.

I presume you meant a chick. And hey, wait a minute! Mind? You make it sound like it's not right to have a female protagonist. :/ Some of the best protagonists ever are female. If you can't plan what's going to happen to your characters immediately, then don't plan it. It works great, trust me. That's very much how my NaNo novel next year went, actually. I knew what all the really, really important events were, but didn't really know how to get them from point A to point B. It worked out pretty okay, actually. I may actually be making some use of this thread for grousing come November. I don't know what made me think that this could actually work, but...Well, i'm trying something somewhat experimental this year. I have this trilogy of sci-fi stories where, although they are all interconnected in terms of shared history etc., each story arc has a different protagonist, anc could in fact stand on its own. And yet, somehow, I decided it would be a good idea to try to write them all simultaneously as one novel... Speaking of November, it's coming up fast! I know it sounds like I'm pushing NaNo, and I guess I am, but still, it's the best novel writing tool I've ever used. Offical sign-up for NaNo noobs starts October 1! I think sign-up closes like November 15 or so. Come on! We can have a DnS NaNo group.

*lol* That sounds great .^^ Count me in. I have a new novel almost ready to go (as soon as I figure out the personas of all characters besides the main two >_>) and I am always in desparate need of whip-crackers.

*Happydance* Another NaNo convert! It's such a blast, Snipes; you won't regret it.
Ah, screw figuring out their personas ahead of time--just wing it! Go mano-a-NaNo. I'm going to have to do that with my monster anyway, seeing as I only even know of the existence of about five characters through all 3 arcs. XD Seriously though, you wouldn't believe how many people dive into NaNo without even a plot, much less characters...
By the way, I found out sign-up closes on the 30th of November...Not that signing up then really does you any good for this year.

I'm really considering NaNoWriMo. The problem for me is that November and December are totally crazy, workload-wise. Poofie, I know you said people with jobs find it easier, but with this, it's hard to find time to do anything. I'm feeling really guilty at the moment, since I haven't touched the violin yet, and I need to know everything reasonably well by tonight. lol I'd love to get a chunk of that nasty first draft done, but if there's no way on earth I'll come anywhere near the word count, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of point in trying. It's funny though, with the project I've got the best start on, the characters don't want to do anything but sit around and drink beer. One of the other projects is destined to be bigger, and at the moment, that's the one that's moving the best. Oh well. I've only got six multi-book stories in progress, another seven or eight singles, and more short stories than I can shake a stick at. Darn creative ADD. ;D

*lol* *hugs Pipey in understanding* I'm sure there will be plenty of people who don't meet the word count, though! But if you can't make it this year there will always be next year.

Well, it's like they say on the website: "You rock for even trying."
Also, Snipes is right. Very few people actually do make 50K any given year. In fact, last year there were over 70,000 participants and only 13,000 or so actually hit 50K. While I must admit it feels quite good to be one of those 13,000, it feels much better to say that I managed to develop characters, fill plot holes, and generally have a novellistic blast in the course of 30 days. You should just go for it and see what happens. Besides, we'll probably hold word wars; those do wonders for your word count!
