I'm not sure about Winter... I think you may have a point. I imagine deep conversations with my friend who moved away. On the other hand, though, Wren's conversations seem awfully vivid for something contrived...
Anyway, interesting idea!

:: disclaimer :: this isn't exactly speculation... but if I were Wren, I would totally snark some of Irshen's pretty things before I took off for 'the states' (and here I think 'the states' loosely translates to a journey into the unknown, with a destination that is likely to not be reached either for a very long time, or at all, because stuff comes up along the way...) ahah! ^ totally real speculation. now I'm mulling... 'twill be interesting to see how far Wren gets on his lonesome... and how long it is before he runs into 'friends'! Yay! Additional characters enter stage..er, West?

Um I know I must seem completely out of the loop but doesn’t the tail on Winter look exactly the same on Wren? >.- And I think he is going to have a hard time convincing anyone that he is a bounty hunter. Just a thought, but *points up* I think they are right, you can’t get very far by yourself in a situation like that.

Yeah, it is virtually identical. Except for in the dream sequences, where he doesn't have a tail at all.
Now that you mention it, Curse, he did mention back in Chapter 3 that "no ammount of skill is going to make this pretty face into a bounty hunter." That was probably foreshadowing.

dundundun... impending doom for wren? find out, next time on... oh wait, that's snipes' line I'm still waiting for those mad skillz he's supposed to have... if he cuts through the wilderness, maybe he doesn't have to go through customs? I have the impression that Lo's original plan was to take a boat (or something) to the states from the city, but if he travels overland to a less used port, he might be able to duck under the rules, specially if that special patch acts like a 'free pass' for certain folks. Assuming he doesn't get mugged on the way... I think his chances might be decent...

Yeah, I can't wait to see Wren's kick-assitude.
Hm, "for certain folks"...I can see Wren wearing a hood and going up to some person on the docks, trying to role-play as this dark threatening person, and the random person just isn't buying. it. XD

*looks at Wren in Poofie's siggy* Gee. I wonder why said random person wouldn't buy it. I'm afraid for his tail. The long coat can only hide it for so long. Since it's completely prehensile, he could probably wrap it around his body under his shirt. He seems awfully attached to the tail, so I'm really hoping he doesn't try to take it off himself. That would not be good.

About the tail - I believe snipes has mentioned before that he does usually keep the tail wrapped around his waist under the coat. Of course that doesn't work if the border cops do routine strip-searches, for example...

Aaargh!
I re-read WN from beginning to current page and forgot that it was plainly stated that Wren's tail is prehensile.
So I must withdraw my earlier spec that the tail is merely superfluous----hmmmm---however...
Lohaun merely said that it was prehensile...she could have just been playing with Irshen's mind...we haven't seen Wren use it yet...so...
Hell, if I had that tail I'd show off by holding my coffee mug with it.

I'd be showing it off by hanging from light fixtures.
That prehensility could be extremely useful if he has to try to play stowaway. The ceilings of large ships are usually a labyrinth of pipes and girders. His tail would be a tremendous help in that respect.

I wouldn't hang off of light fixtures--think of the poor fixture! *Mental image: Wren dangling from a chandelier, and suddenly the plaster in the ceiling cracks, and he and the light fixture fall to the floor*
And even if the tail DOES get removed, why would Snipes point out that it's prehensile and then have it cut off without him ever using it? Not gonna happen--the tail's GOT to be important.

Good point. *is fantasizing about having a prehensile tail to hold the beer bottle with so I could type with two hands* That makes me a lot less worried he'd be rash enough to take it off himself. I really don't want to see him do that.

yeah - snipes may have it in for her characters, but self-inflicted tail-removal is a little too grim... ew

Yeah, that would echo the Mad Max ending a little too much. *shudder*
If I had a prehensile tail, I'd use it when coloring with Prismas. Then, instead of laying recently used pencils all over my desk, or holding them in my mouth, I could just hold them with the tail! So much more organized.

This thread randomly died for a bit, didn't it?
Anyway...Now Wren's wandering off into the wastelands. I think this is the oppurtunity for kick-assitude we've been waiting for, though whether we get to see actual combat or just some badass survival skills depends on how much out there is alive anymore.
Personally, I'm betting there isn't actually much, but I'm hoping for mutant flesh-eating kangaroos.
